Women's March - Who
Marched Statewide in Arizona
Arizona March – By the Numbers
February 2018

Phoenix March organizers had predicted that around 5,000 people would meet on the Senate lawn at the Capital. Surprisingly, the Saturday 21, 2017 protest, had an estimated crowd of around 20,000 at the event.

The March numbers means, roughly 1 out of every 109 active registered Maricopa County voter, bothered to march. To the south in Tucson, Pima County, the March attracted 15,000 protesters, or 1 out of every 36 registered voter. Local Tucson news station KVOA had reported “a couple of thousand” were expected for the Saturday March. The disproportionately large crowd at the Tucson March is most probably due to the fact that Pima County is, by a wide margin, a Blue county. People in other cities like Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, Green Valley, Ajo, and Jerome, also joined the March. News agencies estimated around 36,000 activists participated in the March statewide.

It is important to understand that the day’s protests did not address gender alone. The Phoenix March, as well as all other events, are worthy of recognition because they promoted, built-on and helped to sustain rights for women, people of color, immigrants, those with disabilities, the LGBTQIA community and other minorities. ALL were welcomed.

Whether you attended a Women’s March in person or in spirit, to effect real change, some form of action is mandatory. Volunteer and or donate to campaigns or organizations which align with your spirit or feelings to create solidarity with a cause.

Additionally, the official Women’s March on Washington organization encourages you to join the “HEAR OUR VOICE” campaign: 10 Actions for the First 100 Days campaign, stating: “It’s time to get our friends, family, and community together and make history”.

Our Experiences at the
Women's March in Phoenix
In the aftermath of the Women's March in Phoenix (and around the world), a person should put aside any notions they may have about feeling isolated and alone. This is not the case.

Millions of people, from dozens of countries, marched in support of women's rights and the rights of all people. Regular people are standing up to make clear that a future without progressive thought and political agendas, which includes all people, is unacceptable.
